Sei Ryoku Senyo Ju Jitsu, was established in 1983 by
Sensie Andrew Strickland (5th Dan Renshi, Goshin Jitsu). His
aim was to run a non-political and non-profit making club, to promote Ju
Jitsu, but Martial Arts in general. We believe that we can learn from
anyone, so everyone is welcome.
Ju Jitsu is one of the oldest Martial Arts, its
origins dating back over 2500 years with its roots in the combination of
teachings that either originated in Japan or from neighboring oriental
countries. It has been said that Ju Jitsu can be traced back to the
legendary Gods Kajima and Kadori, who used the art against inhabitants
of an eastern province as punishment for their lawlessness.
We believe that all Martial Arts are basically the
same, its just the delivery that’s different, ie, if your art uses
kicks, punches, strikes, locks, chokes, strangles or throws, then they
will be done to a greater or lesser degree than other arts who
specialize in those specific techniques, to be really good at throws,
you should study Judo, to be good with your hands you should study
Boxing or Wing Chun, to be a kicker try Tae Kwon Do or Muay Thai etc.
The strength in Ju Jitsu, is its unpredictability, in
Karate one is likely to kick or punch, Judo will probably grab or throw
and a boxer will punch and so on, but in Ju Jitsu one will do what it
takes to defend and will combine all of the arts at their disposal to
obtain a favorable out come.
The art in Ju Jitsu is to be able to blend the
various techniques together, so that you can defend or fight at
different fighting ranges, but, you must also select the right technique
for the situation that you find yourself in, bear in mind that all
techniques do not work in every situation, the techniques we learn are
just tools in a tool bag that we can select to do a particular task, and
every new technique that we learn can be put into our tool bag.
We try not to concern ourselves with what style is
best, but take the best from each style and use it to your advantage,
what might be good for you, may not be good for the next guy, "What does
it matter the colour of the cat, as long as it catches the mice"
